An Evening with Ryan Goldberg
|
Date: Saturday, May 16
Time: 7-8 p.m. Location: Maumee Bay Lodge Ballroom Fee: FREE Bird City: Adventures in New York's Urban Wilds
Did you know that more bird species have been spotted in New York City than in Yellowstone National Park? For his new book, Bird City: Adventures in New York's Urban Wilds, journalist Ryan Goldberg embarked on a year of reporting on the natural wonders of his hometown, from urban canyons to capped landfills, crowded parks to remote beaches. In a conversation with Angie Co, the co-founder of Bird Collective and a director of NYC Bird Alliance, Ryan will discuss how connecting with birders, scientists, and the birds themselves offered him a unique look at the city’s vibrant birding community, and the importance of urban conservation in an increasingly urbanizing world. Ryan will share delightful tales of the fascinating characters he writes about--both human and feathered--and how and why birds make their home in this smoggy, noisy, concrete-coated environment. After learning more, you’ll never look at the Big Apple the same way again.
Copies of Bird City will be for sale and Ryan will be available to sign books after the audience Q&A. About ryan
